hi all. running truenas core v13.0-u3.1 in a vm on proxmox v7.3. now that the pools have data on them after 2-3 minutes i get an "IO error" with a yellow triangle explanation mark displaying on the vm in proxmox. after looking at the log and reading some of the other forums it looked like some error regarding writing to the syslog where the message was too long. i have since removed the reference to the syslog and restarted but it hasnt fixed anything. the drives are hanging off a HBA that isnt flashed in IT Mode. so im starting to think this might be the cause with some corruption? not using ZFS though. any ideas? thank you.

An HBA that isn't flashed in IT mode is usually just a RAID controller. Please see

TL;DR is that you need it to be in IT mode and use PCIe passthru to pass it in to the VM.

syslog is unlikely to have anything to do with the yellow triangle. syslog is handled internally to TrueNAS.

As for the rest, please review the guidelines for running TrueNAS virtualized.

Using Proxmox is a bit sketchy but many people have gotten it to work. I would not consider it a 100% reliable solution in every case though.

ah ok. great. thanks for the info. worked out that one of the drives was nearlly full hence the error...had some backups going there that shouldnt of been.

so a system that completely runs TrueNAS instead of a VM is the way to go then? cheers
