I got a pair of Intel X520-DA1 fro my FreeNAS server to go along with my ESXi server so I can NFS to it and you know...

Anyway this works great for a while, weeks even month and all of a sudden it stop working, if I reboot the FreeNAS it work again for 15 minutes and then the link is down again...

I get no log no nothing it even think the link is up! On the other end though ESXi is not a fool and know the link is down. On the cards itself the link is up.

I use a short DA cable between the two cards.

I have set the tunables to optimize the performance, parameters that worked for a while... Lately I updated to the latest version of FreeNAS, I was on 9.10 and still am, nothing big as of an update.

I reverted back to the a more reliable 1Gb link for the time being.

No I did not find the cause of this... I disabled the 10G and I'm using 1G for now...

Have you checked if the cards are genuine? Some knockoffs can be rather flaky.

They look genuine, they have the hologram and they came from the states and not china. I'll pull them off the systems and look carefully to see if they are or not by comparing with pictures of genuine ones online.

Intel has a tool to check serial numbers, I think. If not, their support will certainly help.
