Hi
Is there a "best practise" approach to installing and updating packages and ports on an offline FreeNAS server installation?

Is it possible to setup a local lan repo with the FreeNAS packages and ports? Or is this discouraged because of license issues?

Alternatively how does one manually retrieve all package dependencies for manual download and how do I install the manually downloaded packages or ports

I am aware of the difference between source ports and binary packages and the fact that they are administrated separately.

Kindly regards

Licensing isn't a factor. FreeNAS just uses the FreeBSD pkg and ports systems, so that's where you'd be looking. This thread seems to address the issue.

Unless you're talking about software in a jail, what you need is the FreeNAS updater, which does support an update package that you can separately download and then upload to the server. You'll need a somewhat recent version for that to work.
