Hi,

First time trying to setup FreeNAS.

I used Rufus to format an 8GB USB drive and put the FreeNAS ISO on it.

It boots and then I press enter for the default installation and it says "booting" and I can see a few blue bars, and then it's stuck on that screen. I waited about half an hour without any change. No errors or anything.

I have set the BIOS to boot the USB drive first, and confirmed that it does that.
I have checked the hash of the ISO and it is correct.
I have also tried with another 8GB USB drive.

System specs
4 core 1.6GHz CPU
4GB 1600MHz RAM (I am aware that the specifications say the minimum is 8GB, however I wanted to try anyway as my usage is super basic occasional file sharing).
120GB SSD
Will be installing to 64GB external USB SSD.

Any idea why this might be?

Appreciate any input.

Not quite sure how to edit my post. I wrote "won't boot", but I meant to say that it stalls during the phase where it says it's booting.

I have not had success with trying to install any other way other than burning the .iso to a cd/dvd and installing that way to an SSD/USB drive. Even when it appeared to install ok .. I still had some oddities with FreeNAS and errors popping up in the log files (it's been awhile so don't remember specifics with the oddities).

I just used a random computer with a dvd drive and plugged my ssd into it and installed and then moved the SSD to my FreeNAS box and configured it to my box/restored configuration from back up

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I don't have any CDs on hand, but I tried formatting it on a Mac and then booting from it which worked!
