My late server (Ubuntu) i installed with the os on seperated disks in raid 0 (and coppied the bootloader).
Im now about to install a new with FreeNAS on USB-stick (with 4 drives in raid 5) and wonder if I can stick 2 (or 3) USB-sticks in it with the bootloader and os in raid 0 (as to makle shure it boots/works if one should get damaged ?

Or would it be better jus to clone the intallation USB-drive and keep it ready ? (what do you do).

Thank you

I think you mean raid 1 since raid 0 offers absolutely no redundancy.

But it is not needed nor recommended to attempt that. What you need to do is keep regular config backups. That's all you need to get a new stick up and running. Boot new USB, restore config, done.

You might want to create a cron job to automatically backup the configuration file. It's stored here:

/data/freenas-v1.db

Thanks
Yes I ment mirroring(and not raid 0)
And it appears that a backup of the configuration file is enough with FreeNAS (so I will not need the mirrored drive)
Cron job backup of configfile is a good idea, as long as it is either done off server (USB) or backed up regulary (by another server)
Would love an option of a scheduled email with configuration file.
