Incorrect APM smartctl settings in 9.3 Stable release

Running version FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201503170439 and monitoring new Seagate 4TB NAS hdd's. Noticed APM settings of 192 - Intermediate without spin down displayed, but not configured. Tried changing thru all settings available under the SMART service settings but NAS hdd's never change at all using smartctl in the shell ?? I do have one other drive type which are my SSD's and those cycle thru all settings and properly match whatever GUI is set to in Freenas, my main storage pools shows incorrectly, and worse show permanently set to a setting which I've never wished to use.

How can I get my drives set to my preference ? why does these drives not change like the others despite the drives being compliant and stated as understanding and in smartdb etc. ? Is this a known issue, anyone else seen it ??

The APM settings is in Storage -> View Disk, not in the SMART settings.

And the APM settings are only applied to the drives after a reboot IIRC ;)

Also you shouldn't be using the CLI to do this.

Sorry I mis-spoke, you are correct, they are under the drives its been a long day here.. I however disagree with your statement on the CLI and didn't ask in the post if I was allowed to use it or not. The CLI is where the smartctl commands live, and if you read the freenas manual it clearly states opening the shell windows with a link to the smartctl command line options and switches ! So back to the question you didn't answer but just criticized which seems to be getting out of hand here where it seems like since cyberjock likes to just flame so often everyone else is starting, even those that dont know any better, at least cyberjock does, in most cases anyways. I thought I made it clear, the drives DONT change. Another brand does change, those don't, thoroughly tested. Correct me on the gui, I admit that, no problem, I live and breath by the cli and have as an engineer for over 22 years, and clearly pays off here proving the gui settings improper on the disk page.

I use the CLI pretty extensively too, but only for things that are not in the GUI.

The GUI use a sqlite database to store the settings AND it changes the conf files accordingly to the settings. So if you change only the conf files by using the CLI the GUI will probably do something you don't want to.

The thing is, if you use the CLI you're basically on your own.

I wasn't flaming you, I was just stating some things that are easily missed.

Can you please explain clearly exactly what you're doing (the commands used, ...) and what is not right (GUI print screens, commands outputs, ...)? because I don't understand what is wrong exactly.

It's like saying to your garagist "I used a screwdriver on this car and now this car doesn't work"...

As stated, the manual has a link to smartctl output commands. Per the manual, when setting the APM options available, then using the listed smartctl commands linked to the configuration options. So you understand, settings are done by GUI, yes we know that. using smartctl -x /dev/da0 | grep APM for instance as just one available, the APM DOES NOT MATCH what is configured in the GUI. Other drives I can change in gui, check shell output and see it change, without reboots, these drives NEVER CHANGE from 192, even if rebooted. Hope you understand for your own gratification, I understand you request for specifics but already shown not your area, so follow the link and use the smartctl command, very helpful and nice to use in scripts for tailored updates for which I have emailed out giving current temp and status items like that. Point was simply gui settings don't match ouput from smartctl shell commands, and many many of them give output for APM, not just one, took the time to give you "-x" since it shows (all). Please dont ask again.

It was just what I was asking, a clear sentence who explain what is wrong, thanks.

So from what I can see the GUI store the new setting in the DB but the drive doesn't support it so there is a mismatch between the two. What is the model and brand of the drive who has this problem?
