Import Freenas 7 Harddisk into Virtual Machine via USB

I would like to import an old Harddisk into a Freenas 8 virtaul machine.
My Freenas 7 died and I nl conteed to recover the data from the harddisk.

I looked for an old Freenas 7 image but could not find it. So next I installed Freenas 8 into a VirtualBox machine, gave it full control over the usb harddisk and ... I cannot find the harddisk.

Any idea how to get the data from that harddisk?
Why can't Freenas 8 find the USB device and voila - there are my data?

I have read the stickies, but my problem is not, that I cannot read :), but that I tried to find an old Freenas version and instead found Freenas 8.
So before I went to the forum to read the stickie, I installed Freenas 8 and now my question is:

1) Any idea of how to get the data from the harddisk? Which is a Windows question!
2) Why cant Freenas 8 find the USB device? Which is clearly not to be found in the sticky!

Did you read the memo (Office Space) ... about the stickies?
:)

Thanks anyways for some answers.

About 1) I found a paid tool named UFS Explorer. If you know a free tool for the job, I'd be glad.
