Hi,

I understand that there is a way to attach more then 8 drives to the M1015. I looked around the forums but couldn't find any details being were I first heard about it.

Would some one mind sharing there experience in this?

I finally found mention of using an Intel RESCV360JBD SAS expander via CJ. Can I forgo using the PCIe connector on it? Unsure how it integrates?

The PCI-e connector is just for power. You can use the molex connector instead.

Run one or two cables (four or eight SAS channels) from the controller to the expander. Run cables from the expander to the drives. Simple as that, everything should be automagically taken care of.

Wondering, does it matter which Intel model as they appear to have a few;

RES2SV240NC
RESCV360JBD

The first one is $200 were as the second one is $400.

Other then port count, there shouldn't be any diff?

I suppose the second one uses LSI's 36-port expander chip instead of the more common 24-port one. In any case, the 24-port one should support everything you need and want.

Wonderful, I apologize for the seemingly basic questions and thanks for the clarifications.

Don't worry, while seemingly basic, they did require some research - especially the PCI-e and molex part.
