Hey I know its a long shot but just wondering if I can remount as disk. It was its own volume not striped/mirrored. I don't believe I deleted it, I was having trouble getting freenas to work with the old MB and I was reinstalling Freenas a lot of times and trying reconfigure everything. I fixed the problem by buying another motherboard but now I can't load this disk, but i can choose it to create a new volume. I can't manually mount either. All i want is the data off it. It is formatted to UFS.

Thanks.

Can you post the output of 'gpart show' and identify which disk is the one you hope to recover?

You can ssh or go to the command prompt at the console. If you use the console you won't be able to cut and paste the output though. Is the disk one of your 1TB or 2TB disks?

do you ssh into freenas then type "part show"

Make sure you type 'gpart show'. It should list all of your disks and how they are partitioned.

Also, you said the disk you want to recover was UFS, how are the other disks configured?

This is actually a mates setup. It has two 320GB Striped and a 1TB as a separate volume. So atm the striped disk are only mounted in the freenas system. This is what i got back

=> 63 7823277 da0 MBR (3.7G)
63 1930257 1 freebsd [active] (943M)
1930320 63 - free - (32K)
1930383 1930257 2 freebsd (943M)
3860640 3024 3 freebsd (1.5M)
3863664 41328 4 freebsd (20M)
3904992 3918348 - free - (1.9G)

=> 0 1930257 da0s1 BSD (943M)
0 16 - free - (8.0K)
16 1930241 1 !0 (943M)

=> 34 1953525101 ada2 GPT (932G)
34 94 - free - (47K)
128 4194304 1 freebsd-swap (2.0G)
4194432 1949330703 2 freebsd-ufs (930G)

This is what i see when i plug the disk into my mac and checked it out in disk utility. It could not recognise the format as it is still some sort of freenas format (UFS) but still freenas can't see it unless you want to add another disk. Should I try selecting the disk as a new one or will it delete everything for good? It will reformat it won't it.. Dame I want my files back...

It looks like from this output that FreeNAS is seeing the 1TB disk, but not the 2 320GB disks. Which disk(s) is the one you want data from?

What you're seeing on your Mac is the swap partition at the beginning of the drive, the data partition should be after that. Since you're speaking of a single drive connected to your Mac, I'm assuming you are having trouble with the single 1TB disk, is that correct?

It looks like the partition is there, so don't give up on it. Just confirm the questions I asked above and then we can continue.

Yeh its the 1TB disk.I found a program called UFS explorer which can access the disk on the mac I successfully transferred some data of it but its limited to small files cause I don't have the licence yet. Ill keep giving a try though.

It would be better getting it to work through freenas though.

anyway thanks for your help so far.

cheers

I don't think there's anything wrong with the disk, it's just FreeNAS being difficult.

How did you try and mount/import it? Using "Auto-Import" or just "Import" from the GUI?

If you haven't already, try using "Import" from the GUI. Storage -> Volumes -> Import Volume

If you've tried that already, let me know and I'll tell you how to do it from the command line.

Is there enough space on the 320GB volume to copy stuff off?

Both auto import and import. Both of them could not see the disk. Yeh well Now I seem to be having trouble with my freenas system as well. hopefully it has not got anything to do with that disk cause i plugged it into my system to see if i could access it and nothing on mine. now my system is even responding.

And no there is not enough space on the 320gb disk. I can make space on another disk and add it though.
