The smbldap.conf is keep in folder /usr/local/etc. I run smbldap-config to setup smbldap.conf. I can then use smbldap-groupadd or smbldap-useradd to add samba group and users respectively.

However, when I reboot FreeNAS, the smbldap.conf file revert to original. All my settings are gone. How may I persist it?

I don't import users or groups. I try to create my ldap directory using smbldap-tools from scratch.

I found out I can change /conf/base/etc/local/smbldap-tools/smbldap.conf and it will survive after reboot. However, doing so need to edit both
  1. /conf/base/etc/local/smbldap-tools/smbldap.conf (Persist after reboot)
  2. /usr/local/etc/smbldap-tools/smbldap.conf (To see the changes immediately)
Changes in /conf/base/etc will not keep in /data/freenas-v1.db, and hence save the config via GUI and restore the config doesn't restore the smbldap.conf.

Is there any good way to manage the configuration of smbldap.conf?

To be clear: anything you do outside of the GUI does not survive a reboot. If you can't accomplish what you need through the existing fields in the GUI, you should create a feature request at bugs.freenas.org so that they can be added to the GUI.
