You can setup handbrake in a jail, share your storage containing your DVD images with the jail, and script the transcoding with handbrake. If I recall correctly, and if the state of affairs hasn't changed over the last few years, you have to install handbrake from ports for it to work correctly.

No. The short answer is that there's no point-and-click, prepackaged way to do this directly on the FreeNAS box. It may be possible to do it (but then again it may not), but it's going to take you doing a lot of research on your own. Or you can do what @milesnorth suggested and do the ripping on a client machine, saving the output to your FreeNAS box over the network--and if you need "step by step instructions and screenshots" for anything you'd be doing on the FreeNAS box, this is probably the best thing for you to do.

I would like to use FreeNAS machine to rip the DVDs.

I jest updated to freenas 11.2

I found handbrake iocage file.

https://github.com/freenas/iocage-ports ... /handbrake

I'm new to freenas and unraid.

If this is not the best way to go then. What would be the best way to go.

I'm looking to build a machine to autorip the dvd's into mp4.

I put the dvd in the drive and it copys the dvd to hdd and then convert in to mp4 then spit out the dvd and waits for a new dvd.
