I seem to get corrupted HDDs every 6 months or so (using 3TB Seagate NAS HDDs). Is that normal? Any tips? Thanks...

I've heard of a lot of trouble with the 3 TB Seagate drives. I've had 3 WD Red 3 TB drives going for about 18 months, 6 x 4 TB Reds for just under a year, and 3 x 2 TB disks (two Seagate Barracudas, one Hitachi Deskstar) for a little under three years. No failures in that time. The WD disks have mostly been under 40 C, but I can't say the same about the 2 TB disks.

If your drives last only 6 months then there's a problem somewhere. The first thing to check is the temperature of the drives, it should under 40 °C.

It's with the non-NAS model, not the NAS model AFAIK.

Almost two years on 2TB WD RED's. Your drives should last way longer.

Have to agree with Bidule0hm, you need to look else where. As previously mentioned, check your drive temps, schedule regular SMART tests. Also, that failing drive, would help to post the output of smartctl.

I've had 48 seagate 15k sas drives running 24/7365 since 2008.

I have a few hundred seagate 7200 rpm sas drives running for years. I lose maybe one, maybe two in a year.

If you have enterprise expectations of drives, you should buy enterprise drives.

I had no end of trouble with the Seagate 2TB SATA NAS drives in my Synology. Lost 4 of them in about 18 months. Swapped off to HGST drives, no problem.

I also wonder if you're running the drives too hot. Heat will kill drives, regardless of manufacturer. What sort of temps do you see from your drives?
