How do I update the Plex Plugin?

I installed the Plex Plugin, how do I know there is a new update available?

It'll be updated infrequently, every few months or so.

If you want to stay a little more "with it", then you can use @danb35 's script to install Plex for you, which will give you a Plex jail that auto-updates every Sunday by default.

Assuming you haven't loaded up this plugin with metadata yet, then 15 minutes of the video I'll link will explain how to go about it. If you do have old metadata, another 7 minutes in it will explain the process of bringing that over, as well.

I see, so is IXSystems who will update the software version. I was wondering why the Plex Version shows 1.19.4.2935 when there is a new version available. Will there be a notification of some sort for a new version available with the current plugin offered by IXSystems?

If by notification you mean that you can check manually, and it’ll show the version, then yes. But not in the sense of “it’ll pop up a notice”, I don’t think.

This comes up with some regularity on the forums. Mostly because people have a hankering for new versions, which is particularly strong with Plex users, for whatever reason that may be. Hence the idea to install into a jail that auto-updates.

1.19.4.2935 is also the latest version that is available. 1.19.5.x is a beta release, which you’d only receive if you installed the beta channel plugin. To the point of a particularly strong hankering for version upgrades with Plex users. You are on the latest, yet, we are having this discussion about why Plex isn’t updating to beta versions for the stable channel plugin.

Thanks you for the useful information. I never used plugins before and recently decided to use Plex with FreeNAS. So far, the experience is great. I was simply thinking that official plugins have some sort of update mechanism like FreeNAS does.

No. There are Plex users jonesing for new versions and demanding to know where version X is, it's been three weeks! About that. Yeah. The plugin lags behind a little bit, usually.
