Question: Is my swap 1GB or 2GB, and do I need to rebuild my RAIDz so replacing a defective HD will be simple (ie via GUI when it is working)

Protosd - thanks for that info, makes more sense. It was one of your posts that got me thinking about the swap file size.

Here is the output from swapinfo from my FN box:

I am unsure how to interpret these data outputs.

Thanks

FE

p.s. thanks for the ssh create user suggestion - figured it out, logged in at this very moment. great stuff! BUT: here is the output via putty, i didn't change anything...but now there are two different sets of values:

Its 2GB, you don't need to rebuild your array. Replacing a disk shouldn't be a problem from the GUI.

If you notice the blocksize on one screen says 512, and the other is 1k, that is why the answer seems different, but it's actually the same.

You can also see the swap partition of each disk if you do a "gpart show".

I thought it was answered in the other thread.

You have a 2Gb swap file on each of the 4 drives. In the second screenprint, you have 2097152 1k blocks (2Gb). In the other picture, it's 4194304 512 byte blocks, still 2Gb.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was a bit puzzled with the different output between SSH and my box. Your clear description of my swap size is much appreciated.

Thanks again, it is a great help.

FE!
