Hi,
Had trouble updating to the latest upgrade via webgui...version 2015/12/13 after I got a email saying that there was an update available. The previous upgrade from the first week of December (I think it was in the 4th or 5th) did not take effect. I had the red light blinking in the GUI that the upgrade did not take hold.

When I boot into the latest upgrade, at the end (console menu), I get no IP address. I also get the following message:
mynameNAS ntpd_initres[2540]: host name not found: 0.freebsd.pool.ntp.org

I'm sure I do not have the Realtek chip as per my board description, as I went as per specs for my NAS build.

I have tried booting using previous versions of freenas i.e. 2015/11/04 & 2015/11/28.

I can't get into the webgui without an IP address. Hence I cannot send a bug report. If there is another please guide me.

Many thanks.

'Hostname not found' is simply a byproduct of there being no IP, and not being able to resolve a DNS query to NTP servers.

try setting the IP address of the server manually in the console menu.

Hi,
I have done both the suggestions mentioned by pirateghost & danb35.

Setting the IP address manually gives me nothing. Just takes me back to the console menu, after trying to reset em0.

If I try rebooting to a previous version there is no change. Still the same message.

Any further suggestions?

That makes it sound like something has happened to your NIC. If you're sure all the connections are good, do you have another one you can use, even to test with?

Is there a chance that my new update may have corrupted the boot USB drive?

Also is there anything that I can look for during boot up that might give me clue about the Ethernet port on my board?
I've seen "network not reachable" during boot up.

It's possible that your boot drive has become corrupted in some way. An easy way to determine this would be to install to a fresh one and see if your NIC picks up an IP.

Ok, thanks very much. I'll try that tomorrow & will post how that went.

A way of fixing your issue, could be:
1. from the console (CLI) selecting the network interface (option 1)
2. from the web GUI, going into the network settings and make sure everything is right there

So I have come to the conclusion that my config file has been corrupted somehow during the upgrade to the latest version of freenas from a few days ago. If someone could please confirm that it is possible, please fell free to do so.

The reason(s) for my conclusion are:

I did a fresh install of the latest update on a new USB drive, as per instructions in the guide & on boot up it took me to the console menu (14 items) and gave me an IP address for my box.

I then went into the WEBGUI and uploaded my saved config file, and after reboot this time no IP address for my box. Got a message half way through the boot up that the "network is not reachable".

So does this mean that my config file is unusable at all? Am I back to square one? I do not have any older config files. I thought the cron job that I had set up was last week was doing its job. If someone could point out the link to do this correctly?

Is the FIRST TIME WIZARD easier to set up....with the jails etc?.

Thanks.

Respectfully....I have tried step number 1, as per my second post in this thread. I cannot try option 2, because without an IP address I cannot access the webgui....I think.

Then I misunderstood you. I am sorry.

May be you could write here steps and responses you are getting when selecting option 1) ?

No problem.

For step 1. After prompt:
Please select
1. Emo
2. Em1

I select em0 because that's my cat5 connection to the router.

Then I get a prompt if I want to delete an interface (y/n)...I selected no.

Next prompt is to reset emo1. I select yes.

Then a reply stating that the "connection has been reset....ok"

Then it takes me back to the 14 step console with no IP address at the bottom.

I have also tried the process with em1 just in case. Same thing.

So as per my previous post I did install a new update on a brand new spare USB key (I bought some extras....thanks to cyberjock!). I was able to go into the webgui and import a copy of my config file & reboot my system. But I get the same end result which lets me to assume the the config may have been corrupted some time in the last couple of weeks. I don't have any older copies of my config file.

That's where it is right now. Hence all those questions of mine in my previous post in this thread.

Thanks.

Did you try 'deleting' interface em0 when prompted? Seems like you glossed right over that.

By the way, I had seen a similar problem on my system (with a different type of the network interface hardware), but it was really elusive. So you are not the only one with the problem, and then there was somebody else who also had constant failures like you.

P.S.
Of course your interface is working, otherwise you would not be able to use the Web GUI...

Sorry, I was under the impression that if I deleted it, I might not be able to acquire it again. Will give it a try as per your recommendation.
Thanks.

After deleting the interface & resetting the interface I get an ip address. But when i go into the GUI, there are no interfaces i.e. em0 or em1. How do i figure out the IPv4 address of my NIC ports inorder to manually configure this?
Thanks

If its grabbing an IP from dhcp, you won't see an interface configured. Just manually configure one. Or do it from the console menu...
