Hi,

Just thought a quick introduction is necessary.

I have only just started my Freenas "Journey" and must say its been an experience so far. The phrase "RTFM" very much comes to mind. My main reason for Freenas is it's free, fan of Linux, and something to do.

So far after some messing around i have installed Plex and got a FTP server running. My aims is to get a PXE server running.

The hardware i am running is a HP Microserver, 2.2Ghz and 8GB RAM. I have 2 x 1TB disks for the O/S (overkill maybe) and 2 x 3GB disks for storage.

Regards

Go home your drunk. This is BSD not Linux. Both POSIX but totally different. ;)

Sounds fun. I have mice setup with PXE too. I use it for ESXi Autodeploy. My router (pfSense) tells my host subnet where to find the boot server (FreeNAS) and that bootstraps my hosts to pull the image from vCenter. Works like a charm.

Don't expect great speeds with that. You may end up wanting to boot from USB and adding 2 more 3TB drives for a "RAID10" like setup.
