From one newb to another - Welcome to the forums.
Best advice, and rule no:1 is to read all stickies (top threads in each subforum that have a little 'red stickie thingie icon to the right), FAQ's on the freenas page, and the manual.
After that is read, most of it may pass over your head, but importantly - some will stick. Along with answers to your question.
(somewhat of a codex here to not ask questions that are dead obvious once browsing through the above mentioned readings)
