Hi

I have a successful FreeNAS installation v8.0 on a HP Microserver (AMD x64). I want to upgrade to the latest beta so that I can use the iTunes plugin feature. What is the easiest way to perform the upgrade ?

I have 4 x 2TB disks configured in a ZFS RAID5 volume. All my data currently sits on that volume.

Hi SandmanZA,

Are you running 8.0-RELEASE or one of the 8.0.X releases?

If you are on the original 8.0 release (around a year old) you will need to pick up a new USB key (assuming that's what you installed on) because the FreeNAS install size has increaded from 1GB to 2GB. Use a 4GB key because most 2GB keys are a bit to small....FreeNAS looks like it installs fine but will wind up breaking in unexpected ways.

If you are on one of the 8.0.X releases I would update to 8.0.4 first, then go to 8.2B4. If installing to a new USB key is an option you could always backup your config (do this no matter what before you try anything) install to the new key and upload your config. Doing this gives you an easy way to back out of the update if you have any problems.

Worked like a bomb !!

STEPS:
1. Backup existing config
2. Download ISO and write to CD
3. Boot with CD and install to flash disk (4Gb or more)
4. Restart with installed flashed disk
5. Upload saved config from step 1
6. Check everything is working
