Hi, I am wondering if I have fried my nic / it faulty/overheating / or I just shouldn't have purchased a cheap 20gbp from a Chinese reseller, it worked for a month now its giving errors.

This isn't my FreeNAS nic, it's in a windows 10 pro, hpz840 workstation which connects to my FreeNAS over the network.

This setup has worked fine for 2 months but now but is starting to have issues, 'code 43' in windows and the hp bios reporting problems on the PCI-E slot it is plugged into. I have tried different slots with the same errors. It will come back after a restart but shortly after working the 43 code re-appears and no connection to the network

Now this card isn't officially supported by the z840 but it is supported by its predecessor the z820. Which is very similar in design. It has worked for a few months.
The card in question is an "HP NC522SFP Dual Port NIC" So I'd be surprised at overheating issues, with such a similar chassis and cooling system. I gathered just another way of hp making more money.

The z840 officially supports the HP x520 however this card is much more expensive which is why I purchased the other, to begin with, big mistake?
I'll probably just buy one of these for peace of mind, what are peoples thoughts here?

Thanks in advance, please let me know if this is posted in the wrong forum, it was my best bet for this kind of issue. I know not a FreeNAS issue but It would be great to get the FreeNAS community to advise on this

There are loads of fake cards available from Asia. They are not expected to work at all, and if they do work, may be erratic or fail down the road. Hard to tell.

Thanks, well the ebay seller has very promptly offered a refund no questions asked and without even requesting I return it, so yeah I imagine selling a ton of fakes and not wanting to get caught out, I remember having a nightmare trying to get a vat invoice with this supplier also.
I've ordered an x520 from a good known retailer, will report back once in the machine.. Back to 1gb networking for a few days booo!
Thanks

Not sure what country your are in, but if UK try bargainhardware.com. Loads of second hand kit, including Intel SFP+ NICs

Thanks for the advice! BH are actually my go-to supplier, and actually where I got the workstation from in question, great company! I've had very good customer care with them and next day replacements with under warranty items, which is great as a refurbed kit can fail. Friendly staff with great advice.
Unfortunately, I decided to cheap out with the nic and went with a Chinese eBay supplier, lesson learnt :) let's hope the new one is a rock, cheers
