After reading, I can see the hardware support is limited if you want to use FreeNAS. I have quite a few RAID cards and motherboards that it won't support. That's too bad, because I was looking forward to moving from Windows to FreeNAS for my home server, but after all these years, Windows still dominates. It just works with everything.
As a kid I remember stories about Lindows, FreeBSD and Linux someday over taking Microsoft or at least filling the void. 42 years old now and it still hasn't happened.
Back to Windows it is. It's served me well. Probably because I know what to do when something goes wrong and all hardware and software just works with it.
