I've just put together a NAS with some old hardware.
All it does right now is hosting a CIFS share with ownCloud and Plex plugins installed.
From what I remembered, the CPU was a first generation i5, and it only has a 2TB black drive in there right now.
The problem right now is that it idles at around 95 watts and goes up to 150 watts when Plex is transcoding video.
95 watts on idle is rather high, maybe its a first gen i5 that's why?
im planning to buy some new hardware and put together a new NAS.
will the latest generation i3 have enough grunt to transcode videos in real time?
also, how much power consumption should I expect with the latest gen i3 and 6 HDDs?
