Hi.
I have a FreeNAS with 4 Samsung F4 EG drives, in a RAIDZ1 vdev.
I've just added 4 other drives which were in my old NAS (Synology DS409) : 3 Seagate LP and a WD Green EADS.

One of the Seagates (well at least, i believe, tracking it with my ear) is making some strange mecanic noise, every 30 seconds exactly.

It didn't sound like this in the Synology.

What would be the problem, how can i track it and solve it?

Thanks for any help

I use one of these Mechanics-stethoscope

I gets too difficult to tell which drive is clicking when you have a stack of them. The only other way is to shutdown and unplug the power from each drive 1 at a time and reboot until you stop hearing the noise.

After you identify it, clone it to a new disk using 'ddrescue' from a Live Ubuntu rescue CD (if it doesn't die first), THEN GET RID OF IT! NEVER TRUST ANY DISK THAT MAKES STRANGE UNEXPECTED MECHANICAL NOISES.
