FNFF (FreeNAS Forum Friends),

I was trying to help someone with problems getting CIFS setup for guests and tried on my own FN to capture steps.

- Created DataSet
- Created CIF

- and could browse but not write to it until added the group "nogroup" to my user.

What could have caused that?

Thanks in advance,
Al

It shouldn't affect whether you can access it, but sometimes changing things in the webgui will restart samba, which can work a few ghosts out of the machine. Note that if you totally want to remove password authentication for the share (for all users) then you should also tick the box "Only allow guest access".

Yes, Anodos, allow guest access was/is checked.

Gangel - Glad is working, but that's a band-aid I was trying. While waiting for comments here. That won't allow everybody that connects to your network to access it, unless you create an user for each and everyone of your friends and give them the nogroup group :)

Doing what we've done is the same as give rights to your user/group and create the cif for you, and I think your intentions/needs are different.
