EVGA 680I SLI with quad core extreme edition qx6850
8 GB ram
2 3 TB Seagate sata
1 32 GB SSD

Install from latest, add ip for iscsi, configure mirror set in zfs with ssd cache and as soon as I write data via iscsi from esxi 5 host I get lost devices for all drives.

What do I need to be checking?

Looks like the motherboard had issues. I have replaced it and now I dont get those errors, but I am getting iscsi write errors. Back to research......

Be aware that ZFS and iSCSI are not necessarily the best bedfellows, there's been a LOT written on the topic in the last year or two on this forum.

Any suggestions? Use UFS? Switch to NFS? (This is to provide targets for vmware)

NFS has the added penalty of VMware issuing sync writes, which ZFS honors, and kills performance.

UFS will give more predictable overall performance but lacks the data protection of ZFS, and also generally lacks the capabilities ZFS has to accelerate reads via ARC/L2ARC.

You can Google for "iSCSI" and "copy-on-write" on these forums for more specific descriptions of that combination; I'm pretty sure that a properly resourced system would be totally awesome for reads at least, but the definition of "properly resourced" might be shocking.
