Freenas & Wserver on same machine, same HDD?

So, because i cant use the Virtualbox jail any more as the console part doesn't work on my browsers(idk why) and wanting some private gaming server(s) on my machine(that i used to run in VM jail). I was thinking about getting a second USB to run Windows server from it if possible. If thats possible, can it use the same HDD as freenas?
If the above isnt possible, can i install Windows server on the HDD and keep freenas working?
Would boot priority be enough to prevent the Windows server from booting when the Freenas USB is pluged in?

Or do i need a separate HDD?

The reason why i posed in Storage is that storage is the greater concern.

No you cannot run FreeNAS and windows from the same disk.

I will say this is a bad idea. We are always telling people how much of a bad idea dual booting is when it comes to FreeNAS, yet most people don't listen. So, be warned that you will lose data if you don't know what you're doing.

Can't you use a VNC client?

I'm not quite clear what you're trying to do, but it sounds like you're wanting to run two operating systems on the same computer at the same time, without either one being virtualized. That's simply not possible. You can virtualize Windows under FreeNAS (using VirtualBox or, I guess, bhyve); you can virtualize FreeNAS under Windows (under any of a number of products, but not recommended); you can virtualize both under something else like ESXi; you can dual-boot; or you can use two different computers.

I highly recommend against using phpVirtualBox, it's network performance is abysmal. I did extensive testing on it when I was having bandwidth problems with my usenet apps that I was running under a LInux guest. Turns out that performance is limited due to the network drive VB used and it's limited to a paltry 40 MB/sec!

If you want to run two OSes off of the same machine your best bet would probably be to use ESXi to virtualize FreeNAS and Windows, but that requires some pretty beefy hardware.

And even if you do this you can not use the same drive for both. You will need one drive for the windows install or you will have to store the VM on the FreeNAS pool and wait for FreeNAS to come up completely to use said VM. You will not want to split a portion of the drive for both since FreeNAS wants a whole drive passed through.

To top it off if you are running some game servers you would probably be better suited running a stand alone box dedicated to it with linux and something like https://gamepanelx.com/ to control the installs and servers. Sadly you can not install it directly in a FreeNAS jail at this point unless you setup behyve and install linux into it.
