That depends.
The current backup system does a backup every time a change to the database is made and keeps only 30 backups. So if you did an upgrade, something broke and you spent an hour trying all sorts of different things, you might have no good working backups when all is said and done. There is discussion of this being redesigned (see bug ticket 9099). No ETA on it though, and I'm not sure if it's going to be a TrueNAS only feature or not.
I still like the idea of nightly backups that are never "expired". It gives me useful information in the event that I need to go back and look at far distant history. Not that I'd ever need it, but I can imagine situations where I wish I had a history, and it might be useful. Besides, the "cost" of 300KB per backup is literally nothing. Getting something for nothing is definitely something I'm all about doing!
