OK, Been working on this for about 90 hours without success so I have only two things left to try. Raked through the Sims book and the FAQs on both versions without success.
Two drives on RAID one in V7 build. One failed and a replacements were formatted to EXT4 and tested before telling the RAID TOOLS to FORGET the original and then INSERT the replacement which should then rebuild according to what I've read. Usual care to RESCAN, save changes at every stage. Faulty HDD and original controller as well as SATA cables tested independently.
1) Should I be able to read data from the one original HDD without restoring the mirror?
2) If I create a fresh build of either version on another PC, transfer the one original drive plus a fresh one what are the steps I need to ensure I don't lose the original or corrupt the data? (Stuck with v7 up to now as I know the interface well; v8 means another layer of uncertainty could go that way if required)
