Hello,

My NAS is periodically locking up every week or two. All FreeNAS services stop, logging stops. Can not find any errors or sign of crash. Services on the main IP are not responding, though they listen. The main IP is pingable. I need to hard reset it, power button did not shut it down. The strangest thing is at the same time the one jail I have is still working without a hitch on another IP. The last log entry is at midnight, when a cron job is running a script in the jail:

jexec Node home/qsbackup.sh

Could it cause the lockup? Any other suggestion?

I recommend running MemTest for 24 hours.

Your experience with FreeNAS is likely to continue in this fashion using that antiquated hardware. Do yourself a favor and upgrade the core system to something more appropriate.

Gabe,

Just thought I'd chime in, I've been having the same exact problem and was looking for help here while I was rebooting. I have a similar setup to yours, booting from a usb stick. Once I was able to ssh back in, I checked /var/log/messages, and sure enough I found some repeating errors:

Code:
Nov 29 03:48:35 freenas (da6:umass-sim0:0:0:0): READ(10). CDB: 28 00 00 f1 87 8b 00 00 80 00
Nov 29 03:48:35 freenas (da6:umass-sim0:0:0:0): CAM status: CCB request completed with an error
Nov 29 03:48:35 freenas (da6:umass-sim0:0:0:0): Error 5, Retries exhausted

and so on...

da6 is my usb stick, so you might try checking yours. Mine passes a scrub, but this is actually the second time I've had a usb boot stick go bad on me in this setup which caused strange errors. Otherwise my freenas box runs like a champ with five jails. :D

Ordering a new usb stick now.

Tim
