Looks like your flash drive with FreeNAS is being disconnected for some reason. Maybe try another port, or another flash drive.

Running your jail from a flash drive is officially not recommended. It will cause the disk to fail faster, especially if its a lower quality drive. There are some posts from a few people that have some tricks to help, but in the end you are asking for problems.

Was this your old flash drive from your FreeNAS 8.2 installation?

I red a lot from the forum about this. I don't think new usb flash drives die so rapidly, nore new ssd drives. And in fact I prefer that my usb die, rather than my pool because of the too much writing from the jail. And if it dies ? Is that a big deal ? I'll just have to reinstall the jail on a new stick, right ?

Yeah it's my old stick, why ?

Edit : unless it crashes my pool ofr unknown reason and obscur command lines :p

There's a difference in quality/design between an actual SSD and a USB flash drive. New USB drives can fail very quickly, I've seen it and other users here have had it happen also.

Yes, it would be better for your usb to die instead of your pool, but really, the jail is not going to cause any more excessive writes to your pool than copying the files you download to your pool. I find it a little crazy the trouble some people are going through to run a jail from a usb drive to save so few pennies, or whatever. But if it "tickles your elmo"...

It's a bit more complicated than that. I suppose you could try snap shotting your flash drive and restore the snapshot if it fails.

Yeah it's my old stick, why ?

This probably explains the problems you were having with your previous installation in this drive.

Ok, so flash cards ? there are pci adaptators out there.... But really, I had my usb stick running for 4 years now, and never had a problem till today

It's not to save money.... I just dont know how to make it differently to have my disk proper resting, idling. What you said is not true (imho, i'm just a noob :! ) : just for sabnzb, you'll have a non stop nzb scanning event, and this stops my pool to rest and sleep well.... But I'll make some test : no firefly scanning, no download (I'm not so much a leecher) and testing if my pool is idling...

It's a bit more complicated than that. I suppose you could try snap shotting your flash drive and restore the snapshot if it fails.

???? there is nothing interesting in my jail besides the software, what damage could it be done if my stick die ? I then just have to reinstall on a new stick, right ?

Really ? I never had such issue with reboot (with long booting, yes). I'll try another port, or buy a new stick, I'll keep you inform.... But , please, look further on my screen, the both USB stick disconnect, aren't they (da0 is my freenas system, da1 , my jail)

But it failed when you rebooted right?

After FreeNAS boots, it runs from RAM and only does occasional writes to log files or updating settings. Over time this can silently cause the drive to fail and unless you see some strange behavior like you did with your GUI, you don't realize what the problem is.

I'm not doubting your intentions. It's been discussed in many forums, but the stress of drives spinning up & down can cause your disks to fail faster as well as put more stress on your power supply during that time.

I still think your efforts toward this are pointless, but I suppose it's a good way to learn.

I think this should be another test for you to make so you can understand.

If your flash drive with the jail dies, what happens when you go to the GUI and try to install the jail again?

Yes, I noticed the disconnect, but I missed that it was happening with both of your USB sticks. It might be an issue with your motherboard or BIOS. Maybe see if there's an update available for your BIOS?

Or the bad stick is causing the USB bus to reset, kicking both sticks off.
