Hi,
I have a "little" Problem with my FreeNAS Setup.

It drops since a few month randomly its AD connection. So that I have to go to "Directory Service" --> "Active Directory" and must "restart" the AD connection. Then it runs perfect but after a few hours it drops the connection again and I mus manually restart these connection again.

I found some Post related to my Problem in this forum. But It seams that my Problem is different then the described errors. For example:

It also writes permanently the following Line in the Log:
Code:
smbd: in openpam_check_error_code(): pam_sm_acct_mgmt(): unexpected return value 12

I can't find some Informations about this Error with google.

Some Informations about my setup:
  • Hardware: PowerEdge R710. (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 with 49109MB RAM)
  • The hardware RAID Controller is disabled. The disks are managed over ZFS.
  • FreeNAS Version: FreeNAS-9.10.2-U2 (e1497f2)
  • The System itself runs on a per USB connected SSD.
  • The FreeNAS Server connects against a Univention Samba4 AD with over 40k Users. --> could it be a timeout Problem?
SMB setup:
index.php

I hope that someone here can help me.

And sorry for my bad english :~

With friendly wishes

Ok,
I can't elimiminate, that there is a temporary time switching but momently ''date'' says that the Time is correct.

So I hope that it is not a timing problem.

How can I check if there is a communication error?

One of the most useful features I discovered was enabling the "Show console messages in the footer"
It lets you see the console running on the bottom of the freenas web console so you can see exactly what's going on and you can easily see communication errors or any other errors that are encountered as they happen in real time.

This section in the documentation explains that feature in detail
https://doc.freenas.org/11/system.html?highlight=#advanced

This is the section in the freenas Advanced section of the System settings

This is what the footer looks like after you enable it

The extra nice thing about this feature is that if you click on that footer console, it opens up a new window and shows you a larger view of the console which you can also stop from refreshing to copy any text from the console and use that to paste into the browser on another tab or window to do some research
