Hello,
When I try and install freeNAS I am getting the error below on every core of my server. It seems it doesn't like SpeedStep. What can I do about this? I can install it on another server without issue, but it doesn't seem to like the bigger server.

Looks like it might be a BIOS setting. From the est man page:

est: CPU supports Enhanced Speedstep, but is not recognized.
est:
cpu_vendor GenuineIntel, msr 471c471c0600471c
device_attach:
est%d attach returned 6

Indicates all attempts to attach to this interface have failed. This usually indicates an improper BIOS setting restricting O/S control of the
CPU speeds. Consult your BIOS documentation for more details.

I believe I told the user precisely this last night in the IRC channel ;) Unless it's a different guy.

How about hardware specs?

Mind sharing what the fix is? And yes, I know this thread is years old. But, it is one of the top results in a search.

Also, anyone else know the fix?

Typically, you will find a setting in BIOS to enable Speedstep, which may go by other names. EIST or something. I don't remember the details of this case.

this was on a DL 585 I had. I no longer have it, but basically it didn’t like the cpus in the install. I didn’t find what Drkk was talking about, but I went with newer hardware. But to help you with this, it was intel cpus
