Hello guys,

I would like to use FreeNAS as a backup only solution.

The main question now, is how to project the machine. Since it's a backup only solution, probably over iSCSI with NTFS inside, I would like to know if I do need to follow the 1GB of RAM per TB of storage. Since it will not serve files for constantly reading, it will be only a "write storage".

Considering this scenario, I'm considering something highly resilient, like RAID-Z3 with eleven disks of 2TB, giving a total of 16TB of usable space.

I think 16GB of RAM would be enough, so I can buy a "cheap Xeon E3" to do the job.

What you guys think?

Thanks in advance,
