Unable to monitor any SMART enabled devices. Try debug (-d) option. Exiting...

I believe I can live without these but it would be a good to have them. Thank You,

I think I should not monitor sine the HDDs are in pass - through mode. I have found in forum : "According to one of the kernel devs, mfip is the mfi passthrough driver, which exposes the devices behind the RAID controller to the OS. This warning occurs when you try to run smartctl directly against the device, which isn't necessary since the RAID controller monitors SMART already and marks drives as Predictive Failure when they trip. Running smartctl on these disks should not be necessary and in fact could cause Bad Problems if exposed disks are modified. "

The way I set up the HDDs is all set in an individual virt.drives

So I believe I can live without smartd ......

Your HBA needs to be flashed to IT mode in order to monitor the drives via SMART.

You should also flash it to IT mode to use zfs. Otherwise you have multiple caches and zfs might think data is written to disk but it's not because the raid card is doing stuff.
