FreeNAS-9.10.1 Upgrade problem

ive got mirrored sticks, both looks like ONLINE

Same problem here with 2 mirrored USB sticks. I don't think it can be possible that everyone's USB boot device died simultaneously post 9.10.1.

Looking in rescue mode, it doesn't look like grub is able to read from either USB boot devices. Attempting to list either one shows "unknown filesystem". Not sure if this is expected.

Hello, I also am new to FreeNAS and I also tried to upgrade to 9.10.1 this morning, which also resulted in a problem booting; it went straight to the BIOS setup and I noticed that my boot device was not showing. I unplugged and re-plugged in the USB drive and tried rebooting again and this time it was able to find my USB boot drive. I then did a 'verify install' from the GUI and it resulted in two problems:

So, I reverted to the previous boot snapshot and rebooted, again having to unplug and re-plug the USB drive and performed another 'verify install' and it completed without issue.

My question is, should I keep the previous 'un-updated' version for now, or continue with 9.10.1, also can I fix the issues with 9.10.1?

I think I had a similar experience to Therik, although I did not verify install before reverting to an old install.

I've been through this twice now. Once through the GUI updater and a second time using the CLI. The first time I could not remove the 9.10.1 boot environment and had to resolve using the method described in bug #13254 (although this may be unrelated).

When using the CLI once it came to activating the boot environment the system would just reboot straight into the bios and I had to remove the CMOS battery to get the USB Drive to appear again (should probably just have removed and plugged it in again....). Once it reappeared I was able to boot to the previous boot snapshot.

I'll hold off updating until a new version is available or someone can find a work around/explain what's going on.

Actually, I do not have mirrored boot setup, so I don't think it's isolated to that situation.

I was able fix it by installing from CD and selected the upgrade option. The installer imported the configurations and all is well now.

This version is already 9.10.1, I think that we must wait until 9.10.2

I had exactly the same problem. I also solved by reinstalling the newest version and choosing "upgrade". Everything went smooth from there on. So this is a confirmed workaround.

Upgraded in the GUI and now getting exactly the same screen...

Please escalate! This is not an isolated event, and systems are down!

I'm running a brand new system on a brand new USB boot drive. It's been running for about a week now.

I too can report that upgrading from the install media solves this issue without data loss. Here's how (for newbies):
1) Download the latest FreeNAS version 9.10.1 from this URL: http://www.freenas.org/download-freenas-release/
2) Prepare a new install USB per these instructions: http://doc.freenas.org/9.10/freenas_install.html#preparing-the-media
3) With both the old boot USB and the new install USB inserted, boot the install USB
4) Select "Install/Upgrade"
5) Select the old boot USB. If you pick the right one, it will ask if you want to upgrade. You do.
6) Allow the upgrade to proceed, remove the install USB, and reboot.

Everything should now work. I definitely will be waiting a few weeks to upgrade FreeNAS in the future...
