I installed the FreeNAS plex plugin and added the storage to the jail. When I go to set up the server and add folders to it the only folders it brings up is the plex folder not the media. What methods can I try to get plex to see the folders?

They changed something in Plex so that it sticks into a directory for the GUI browser. Just type in the point where you mounted it. For instance mine is /mnt/Movies for the movies and /mnt/Music for the music. You can then go on from there as usual and set up the library. If you mounted into the media folder it would be /media/whatever in case you are wondering but you can always look in your storage setup for the jails to figure out exactly where things are.

i run into the same issue. what i have noticed, when you came from an older plex-plugin and upgrade over time to that latest, you have no issue.
but from a fresh install you can not choose the rootfolder in the plugin, you have to type in the path manually. i think its a bug.

I'm Having the same problem, Even a fresh install of freenas does nothing.

I decided to install freenas 9.10 instead in the end and its all working now with no issues.

Clicking on the box with your mouse cursor and trying with your keyboard should work. Screen shots?

Another solution is to just link the media into a folder that plex already shows as available.

A Plex jail should have the data in
/usr/local/plexdata/Plex Media Server/

or for a PlexPass install it would be
/usr/local/plexdata-plexpass/Plex Media Server

and the plugin should have it located at
/var/db/plexdata/Plex Media Server/
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/ar...the-Plex-Media-Server-data-directory-located-

But I literally just set up a 1U with a fresh install of FreeNAS 11 and Plex in a jail about a week ago and was able to add the media with zero issue. Was just a bunch of movies and the storage was added into /mnt/Movies, click on the box and type "/" and it started listing stuff.

Those are the default locations, hence the reason for the link to the Plex source. I guess I should clarify that you will want to use a subdirectory to put your media but if you seem to have an issue with "finding" the media that is what plex will open up to by default and you can then pick your subfolder like Media and then add your "Movies" subdirectory from there. It's a little more work adding the storage into the jail but once you are adding your media there should be no issue finding it.

Goto Jails > Storage in the freenass gui and set up multiple storage. Source should all be the same i.e.: /mnt/Volume1/Media but change each destination i.e. : /media/Music and /media/Movies

then enter manually in plex /media/Music for your music library and /media/Movies for your music library etc.

worked for me

In FreeBSD which FreeNAS is based on as well as linux files systems CASE MATTERS. It must be exact I would suggest having the mount point for the jail open in the FreeNAS GUI when you are trying to type it in and just copy and paste if typing does not work.

After spending half a day on it, I stumbled across this thread and the above worked. Below is a re-write to help clear it up.

Issue resolved by:

Creating the /mnt/Movies directory | Jails >> Storage >> Edit >> Set Source as My Movies Location (the actual folder your movies or music is stored in) >> Set Destination as /mnt/Movies (or Music) >> Checked "Create Directory" >> Checked "Mounted?"

Manually entering the Media Library Location |
In the Plex GUI >> Name Server >> Add Library (whatever library you're setting up) >> Add Folder (this is the important part) >> Manually enter /mnt/Movies and add it >> Complete the rest.

Thank you for this response. This saved me a ton of research to get my Plex Media Server up and running with FreeNAS 11.

Hi new to freeNAS and this site. I have been following the advice above and am having similar problems setting up plex reading the mounted storage. Like above, when adding a library my Plex can only see /var/db/plexdata/Plex Media Server/ directory and not the root.

I am using FreeNAS-11.0-U2 (e417d8aa5) and have tried creating mounted storage for plex jail using the destintion '/mnt/Media' and '/var/db/plexdata/Plex Media Server/Media' for a test location for my single movie. I have checked, the folder 'Media' and file 'Movie' are being created and mounted. Each time in plex manually entering the directory on the add library menu, but the film does not get found after scan.

When using the '/var/db/plexdata/Plex Media Server/Media' directory It displays the Media location in the add library directory menu, but is greyed out/ a non selectable option.

I have even manually updated the plex server to the latest version using the shell commands incase this was the issue, but this had no changes.

I know the disability of reading the root folders is a current version 11.0 issue, but was hopeing there was a workaround I could use untill the 11.1 version came out soon. Im unsure how to get this to work apart from downgrade to freeNAS 9 to get plex to work, but this seems a little execisive. Anyone got any suggestions?

Ignore my cry for help, this was not a freenas or plex issue it was a permission issue, in windows I set everyone to have read access and the scan worked.
