Okay, folks, I hold everything that I (hope) need and will build it over the weekend. I'm pretty confident, but any thoughts/opinions, as always, would be appreciated. I've included links to where I bought the item and the prices that I actually paid for each item. I paid shipping and/or sales tax for a few things, but these costs were probably under $30.
Mobo: Supermicro X9SCM-F-O - $146.42 (10% discount coupon, normally $162.69)
USB: 2x Kingston Digital 8GB DataTraveler Micro - $7.99
PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA-380D - $44.99
RAM: 2x Crucial 8GB Unbuffered ECC CT102472BA160B (first stick was $97.93, second $87.95)
Case: Fractal Design R4 Black Pearl - $79.99 (on sale, normally $109.99)
CPU: Xeon E3-1230 V2 - $229.99
HDDs: 4x WD Red 3TB - 2x @ $99.99 (139.99 each w/ $60 rebate and $20 rebate (TigerDirect) and 2x @ $139.99 (Newegg)
Note on HDDs: TigerDirect runs the $30 rebates from time to time it looks like. However, you are limited to 2 drives per order and, more importantly, 2 rebates per household (I wasn't sure I would get away with going for 4 and was eager to just get everything in my hands). They had an additional $20 rebate if you spent $100 (yes, you could use both at the same time), so final cost for two of the drives will be ~$100 each after rebates. Amazon has the drives normally at ~$135, but I pay sales tax (bastards) so it's cheaper with Newegg as long as shipping is free.
Though I never started this project as a completely new build, that's where I ended up after lurking these forums, reading of stickies and much study (thanks to everyone for their help, especially cyberjock, jgreco and DrKK). The CPU is overkill for what I need at this point (and may always be) but I couldn't convince myself that the Pentium or i3 alternatives that I considered and that supported ECC would have been sufficient for potential need. Also, I was going to build with 8GB of RAM, and think I could have safely done this and run my 4-disk RAIDZ2 pool, but saw the price drop the second time around and pulled the trigger (still at the price point as of checking it tonight).
Grand total: $1183.21
Thanks for looking,
Chris
