Hi everyone,

I got a specific questions which broadens to a wider one
I'm running Truenas as a SMB file server with Winsvr AD etc etc.
I got a bidaily snapshots routines that are backed up offsite. Snapshots are kept 2 weeks

I got concerns over data integrity and if nobody notices data deletion within the 2 weeks ttl period, data will be lost.

I know that making Monthly snapshots or other snapshot strategies could remedy to a certain point but... How can one be sure if year 2014 backup had valuable data that is no longer availlable in the system. How and when will someone point out that data is missing.

So back to the real question :
Is there a way to make data R/O after 2 weeks it was created for example? Is there a way to automate changes in ACL permissions?

The strategy here is:
Within 2 weeks after a file is created, there are good chances that it's still getting used and more likely to be called missing if something goes wrong. In this case, bidaly snapshots are covering us.

After this period, users will no longer be able kill data.

----

Broader question: To who has a annual snapshots schedule. How can you eventually clear these ''archives'' with confidence.

---

To another standpoint, what convenient tool can be used to monitor massive data activity/changes within Truenas? I know audits can log transactions but I don't think that, this alone, can be readable solution, May be I,m mistaking

Thanks for your lights

Mainly looking for advices here.
