So I was running FreeNAS 8 RC5 and tried to update to FreeNAS 8.0 through the admin interface. It failed and I didn't think anything of it until I restarted and now it won't load the filesystem.

Any other day, I would just say screw that and start with a clean install, but I was using ZFS on RC5 and all of my data is in the ZFS data pool.

I need to figure out how to do one of the following: import the existing zpool into a new install, export the whole FreeNAS configuration for importing into a new install, or recover my current install.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is where the errors start during the boot process:
Code:
GEOM: da0s1: geometry does not match label (16h,63s != 255h,63s).
GEOM_STRIPE: Device drivestripe created (id=2837440063).
GEOM_STRIPE: Disk ada1 attached to drivestripe.
GEOM: ada1: partition 1 does not start on a track boundary.
GEOM: ada1: partition 1 does not end on a track boundary.
Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ufs/FreeNASs1a
exec /sbin/init: error 20
exec /sbin/oinit: error 20
exec /sbin/init.bak: error 20
mount: not found
mount: not found
mount -r ro /dev/ufs/FreeNASs3 /conf/default/etc failed: dropping into /bin/sh

Thats why running RC in production is a very bad idea...

You have two options:

- Try to boot into the recover partition (press F2 on boot loader)
- Install 8.0-REL, export the zpool in shell (zpool export mypool), and use the Auto Import tool (Storage tab -> Auto import icon on the top)

Good News! The Auto import tool worked from a clean install. Thanks a ton, I was really sweating bullets!
