Hello,

My system:

MB: SuperMicro X9SCM-F
Controller: LSI 9211-8i in IT-mode.

Installed as an all-in-one box with ESXi 5U1 and FreeNAS 8.2-BETA4 as a virtual machine with the LSI adapter directly available to it in passtrough mode.

The problem that occurs is that during boot FreeNAS hangs with this message:

run_interrupt_driven_hooks: still waiting after 60 seconds for xpt_config mps_startup

There is a solution available here:

http://forums.freenas.org/archive/index.php/t-6166.html

It is to disable MSI and MSI-X interrupts. The issue only exist when using FreeNAS in a VM with ESXi 5 but I think this is a common setup. I have seen several others having the same problem with their SAS2008 based cards.

Some googling revealed that there is a LSI maintained driver that can be used instead, it is mpslsi.ko. Has this driver been tested with FreeNAS? Maybe it will solve the problem. I would test it myself but I don't really know how to replace the mps driver in FreeNAS.

Are there any plans to fix FreeNAS so SAS2008 controllers in passtrhough will work out-of-the-box with ESXi 5?
