Hey friends ! I have a RAIDZ in two enclosures (IStarUSA BPU-230SATA) comprised of 6 2TB disks connected via ServerRAID BR10I.

I have backups of all of my data.

These caddies have individual On/Off buttons for each drive AND a button marked "Reset" that, well, I can only assume resets all three drives in the caddy.

I have a sinking suspicion that if I were to press the "Reset" button that I would be offlining three (THREE !!!) drives in my array at once, and destroying my pool. I expect that turning off any two at once would have the same effect.

Can anyone tell me with more certainty if I am correct, or would pressing reset just result in some drive checking and such ?

Hey Aze thanks for posting! According to http://istarusa.com/documents/pdf/BPU-230SATA_old manual.pdf it looks like the reset button is not necessarily as evil as you may think. Quote from their manual included below.

D.1--- Reset Switch for buzzer alarm and overheating LED When overheating occurs(default setting is 60) the buzzer alarms and the temperature LED turns red, meanwhile, buzzer is alarming and LED is blinking). press the Reset Switch to stop the alarm, and LED goes off.

Ahh, thank you. I'm not going to test this in situ. The caddies were sans manuals, and I got so worked up I forgot to do the search !
That worry was secondary to the quite possible issue of someone (young children) pushing ANY of the buttons. I may switch to cages that do not have switches, as FreeNAS isn't intended to have drives popped in as such.
