Hi everyone! :) I'm new here on the forum area and also to freenas. While I am just a newbie at freenas, I have successfully setup a simple storage server on my own without getting myself involve in the freenas forum for awhile, while setting this server up. To start with, I "google-ed" and found some simplified "How-To Set up a home file server using FreeNAS files" steps and was on my merry way to heaven but, the email setup portion has confused even though I has read/followed the freenas guide to the letter but to no avail that its able to email me problems worked. Most of the time, the error message is "Your test email could not be sent: [Errno 8] hostname or servname provided, or not known". This is what frustrate me to a certain point and I have check and rechecked every setting from ip4 setting to the domain and even my own email address and even my password on the smtp required authentication setup but still i get the asme message and i am out of ideas! So PLEASE-HELP-ME!!!! :(

Hello! Thanks for answering! :) You know that I am newbie in this stuff so, but the question might be silly so, what kind of info would you like me to provide to help solve this problem because I have tried according to even the latest guide and still it does not work!!:( Is it the network ip address? If it is then the ip range uses 10.1.1.1 to 10.1.1.254 and my isp is P1Wimax in my country but, I am not sure about the domain part and the nearest I got to it is "packet-1.com" and I am not sure that is correct or not.:(

Wow. My comment was totally fubared.. LOL! I definitely needed coffee at 4am when I wrote that. Let me try this again:

Can you provide a screenshot of the fields you are entering for the emailing?

The email settings you enter must come from your email provider. Nobody will know those except your provider and their customers. If you don't already know them you should contact your email provider or possibly Google for the info.

What is your email service? Do you have a 2-factor authentication enabled?

First I would like to say hi to everyone on this forum again since well I time traveled to the future and well just met-up with my past self!:) Okay, now with that is out of the way, I happen to just create a new secondary email because my older primary (well actually the local older email) had just apparently shutdown and died recently. Now my new security email is set to G-MAIL and with that I again tried to set the email settings in my freenas (upgraded to version 9.3 stable ....) and again failed a few more times but just as I was to give up and call on the calvary, I took a stab at searching the forum first and finally found an older tread/discussion with pictured examples for G-MAIL SETTINGS and voilà! EUREKA!!!!!! So this reply/discussion is to THANK YOU, ALL OF YOU! out there in the forum for trying to assist me on this very trying piece of work. THANK YOU!:)
