Hi guys,
I seem to get daily run output and security run outputs nightly at 3:00AM. Additionally once a week a different report from FreeNAS v8. I only want to be notified when something fails or breaks. Where is the option to remove the excess emailing?

Right now there's no setting to configure this. If you were to change/delete your email address it would stop, but then you wouldn't get errors mailed from SMARTd. I know they're planning to make this more configurable, but for now it probably means some type of hack. I'll see if I can figure out something unless anyone else here has a suggestion.

Or setup some sort of email filter/rule in your mail system so that it ignores/deletes all of these emails, or scans for specific content (eg. evidence of intrusions etc.) and only delivers matching emails.

The problem with only getting emails when something fails is that you can never be quite sure that the process is running. If you get a status email every day then you know its not running when you dont get the email!

Something in the subject line that indicates if there is a problem would be usefull. You could just look at the subject and delete it if all is OK (either manually or using some sort of email filtering as previously suggested).

Anyone figure out where these are being generated and how to configure them?

People really should take heed of campbela's advice. If your system fails but no e-mail is generated/sent/received, you'll keep thinking the system is just fine. Since the earliest days of computers, designers figured out "acks" are important. Just sending something off into the wild blue yonder assuming it arrives is for the birds. The better option is something in the header saying "ALL OK" or "FAILURE" (or something liike that). People who don't want to read them can filter on "ALL OK" (or whatever). I wouldn't even put in an option to allow not sending OK status. You either don't care about status, or you care about ALL status (including OK).

Agreed. It would be helpful to at least know how it's being generated to customize it a bit though.

It's really on the list of things to do, but I think currently the focus is getting 8.2 to final release and getting the plugin system working properly so they can then focus on improving on features like this among many other things.

Just to clarify, I'm really only looking to find out what the process/script is called that compiles this email. I'm not looking for an UI to this.

Are we even sure it's not already the case?
Who wants to break something and see if the subject is changed? :P

Those two daily reports are boring me too... not reading them anymore... the problem is that the day there will be important stuff in it, we will miss it!!

I'm going to make a zpool and break it tonight just to see what happens. I'll post back with the exact message so all can see.

I hope you're not disappointed, but it's a good thing to try just so you'll see ;)

I'm still working on my build. I have had to learn how to recompile the kernel as well as the driver. FreeNAS is compiling now, but it apparently takes several hours. It's been a much bigger project than I expected it would be. But, I'm learning a boatload.

So I got the setup going. Pulled a drive(never do this if you actually care about your data) and no email messages. I'm pretty sure the midnight email would tell you though. The alert light took about 60 seconds to change.

Let us know tomorrow if the object of the daily run output email (3am) is different!

I plan to be upgrading a FreeNAS server soon. I'll make sure to do a test and report back how the results look.
