I'm new to FreeNAS having come from a Synology 5-disk SOHO system. So far the iXsystems NAS is work well. I most recently have copied data from an rsync backup that has made extensive use of hard links using (--link-dest). Yes, I'm using -H when copying to preserve these hard-links.
What I noticed that was strange was that the values I got from du -sh as the copying progressed is that I got (sometimes) lower values. I would only expect things to go up.
Example:
Apologies, I cannot get copy/paste working from the web shell despite the instructions saying to use Cmd-C, Cmd-V.
At first I wondered if there was background compression going on, but I highly doubt that now. If there's another more accurate way to measure directory sizes, please feel free to redirect.
