This is my first NAS, and i need help.

Running the command
Code:
camcontrol devlist

outputs this:
Code:
<HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4482 E107> at scbus0 target 0 lun 0 (cd0,pass0)
<ST3250820AS 3.ADG> at scbus1 target 0 lun 0 (ada0,pass1)

which i assume means that there is 1 ADA hard drive and 1 cd drive.
And yet, when I try to create a ZFS volume, I get this:

WHY ARE THERE NO AVAILABLE DISKS???????

I am using an Optiplex GX620, with a Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.60GHz, 2 GB RAM, and am running FreeNAS-9.2.1.2-RELEASE-x64 (002022c).

Where did you install FreeNAS? On the Seagate hard disk?

If so, please follow the instructions in the manual to install it on a 4Gb USB flash drive, leaving your hard disk usable for storage.

With 2Gb RAM, you'll be limited to using UFS. ZFS on FreeNAS needs a minimum of 8Gb RAM, preferable ECC.

I used an RW-CD to install FreeNAS onto a USB (SanDisk Cruze 4GB), and then booted from the USB, but I believe it is still booting the FreeNAS I installed in the hard drive?

HELP PLEASE!!!!!

While there are other ways of wiping the drive - the easiest for you, would probably be to download a copy of DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke). Download it, burn it to a CD and run a quick erase on the disk. It'll take a hours to run, but it'll clear the drive.

I always clearly label my DBAN disks as DANGEROUS. Just so I don't use one accidentally.
