Hi all,

Long time fan, and been watching this forum for a few months, before I finally build my own server.

I have my Freenas installed less than 2 days ago and having no problem, until yesterday.
For whatever reason I cannot access the server, so I have to force turn off (by holding the power button), and turn it on again.

Then I look into the /var/log/messages for clue on what's happening, and this is what I found:
May 17 21:18:15 freenas kernel: epair0a: link state changed to UP
May 17 21:18:15 freenas kernel: epair0a: link state changed to UP

and it keeps repeating this until I turn it off.

Anyone have any clue why? alc0 is the name of my NIC. My network is configured with DHCP.
I checked that I do not have any scheduled task running or scheduled at that time.

My spec:
Mobo: Gigabyte Z97N-Wifi
Processor: i5-4690
Ram: 16GB non-ECC
Hard drive: 3x Seagate Ironwolf and 3x WD Red, all 4TB
Installed on a USB thumb drive mirrored

It's a bad idea to use Wi-Fi interfaces for FreeNAS.

The alc0 interface is the Wi-Fi interface. You may need to disable it in the BIOS.

I'm pretty sure it's not using Wi-Fi however, because then I would have to use my passkey, which I never done that.
The Mobo have 2 LAN Ethernets, perhaps that is why it is named alc0.

My apologies, you're correct. However, that's not really a supported NIC for FreeNAS. Experience has shown Intel NICs work best. If you can get an Intel NIC, and disable the motherboard Atheros NICs, you'll have a better experience.
