Hi All,

I recently noticed that my disks are reading/writing every 5-10 seconds. Only since upgrade from 11.2 to 11.3, however, this might just be a coincidence!

I know that data is sent to RAM before writing to disks, currently set up as:

Pool
>RAIDZ1
>>dev/ada0
>>dev/ada1
>>dev/ada2
>RAIDZ1
>>dev/ada3
>>dev/ada4
>>dev/ada5

However if I physically disconnect the network cables from my system, the disks are still reading/writing every 5-10 seconds.

How can I find out what is causing them to read/write

Many thanks

That will be the logging that is written to the system dataset.

If you have your boot pool on an SSD, you may want to switch the system dataset to that or to another SSD-based pool that you could add if you don't have it.

OK, thanks for clarifying, I am looking into instaling a couple of SSD drives for CCTV recording. So I could set the system data set to the SSD pool.

It has been bugging me for a while, at least I now know.
