Direct Attach SAS

I have searched the forums and overall internet pretty well and can find no mention of FreeNAS' capabilities with direct attach SAS. I will soon have a Supermicro X8DTU 1U box with an LSI 3801E 3 GB/s External SAS card and would like to use it as an ESX box. I have a FreeNAS box that I could put another LSI 3801E SAS card in to present storage to the ESX box via SAS, but am unable to determine if FreeNAS will be able to present a virtual volume/RAID over SAS. Please let me know if there is something I am missing or is this is even possible. Thanks!

As far as I know, the answer is no. You'd have to access the share through a network interface.
