Ok so i have setup freenas 9.3 for the first time.
i created a few datasets and was having problems connecting to them from various systems.
so i deleted them and the shares and started over.
i was able to recreate one of the ones i deleted with the same name, but the other one failed to be recreated.
i get an error: The path /mnt/v1/media already exists.
but that does not show up at all when i click on storage.
so i created a share and when i went to browse it shows /mnt/v1/media
so i selected it and i am able to connect to it from a windows box.
it still does not show under storage though. so i am hesitant to add files to it since its not showing.
what can i do to fix this issue please help.

As a start I'd restart the FreeNAS and see what shows up/doesn't who up.
And I definetly would NOT add any data since you can't change the configuration (permissions etc.).

When the restart does not clear things up and you still see the share you have to go to the command line or do a fresh install if you want to stick to GUI.

you created a directory not a dataset. Directorires don't show up under the storage tab only datasets do.

Woo hoo! Solved. Thanks for the replies.

I ran rmdir /mnt/v1/media then went back and created media dataset. Worked perfectly.

Thanks, This just helpd me with a related problem caused by creating a CIFS share before the dataset existed. Manual rmdir and recreation as a dataset first solved it for me.
