Data Pool Issue (Noob Question)

Hi Community,

Forgive the noob first question/post.

I have gone and done a blatantly stupid thing and configured a newly built Truenas 12.0-U4 late at night, whilst I was reading the install guide (It was based on 11 train) I had missed the major step of creating data sets and gone and created folders directly in the new mnt.

Subsequently I had made a change to the host name and as a result now can only read those files and not remove them off the drive or change/modify any files or structure, even when I tried to change back to the old hostname they all seem to be locked to a previous ID.

I guess I am looking to understand if there is a way I can recover from this and not loose the 9TB of stored data?

Feeling very embarrassed and somewhat a little nervous right now... I did do a search but could not find the same issue, only other permission type issues.

Appreciate any safe advice on how to recover from this.

That's really a minor issue.
Create your datasets, while avoiding naming collisions (maybe rename your normal directories by appending "_old" first), and over the data. Delete from the origin once done.

Thank you very much for your assistance Eric, that helped me get onto the right track!

Turns out I also needed to chown -R the folder on the CLI to an account that was set in place at the GUI level, it seems permissions do not get removed from a folder if you delete an account, it retains those permissions and you cannot create a new account and take over that folder (Well access to it anyway) I am not sure if this is a bug with the GUI not setting the new changes, or if this is as intended.

Anway your help got me set on the right path, and for that I am grateful
