Hi,
I was reading about crash plan on different web sites, then I got in doubt what steps I have to do.
Do I have to start with a Linux installation or is this something I miss understood?

Is there any tutorial which I could follow and get the plugin running?

regards

Isn't there anybody out there who managed to get crashplan running under FreeNas? I got the plugin installed but then I'm not sure what to do, of course when I start I have to agree on the rules from crashplan. I stuck when it comes to the additional steps. I have to change the port but how and where can I do that?

A handful of people do run Crashplan under FreeNAS. But, let me make a few points:

1. This isn't the Crashplan forums. So coming here for support is, at best, questionable.
2. The total number of the subset of FreeNAS users that also use Crashplan is very small.
3. Many questions asked are so rudimentary(or so complex) that it's really not worth the person's time to write a response. Imagine if you went to a car forum and asked "how do I replace my car's engine". You aren't likely to get a response because the answer is the size of a small novel. I deliberately don't answer *many* questions here because of this simple fact.

I don't use Crashplan, and most of the more senior posters here don't use Crashplan. That being said, you can take whichever combination of the above you want as the reason for no answer.

Yeah, even I already worked a couple of times with FreeNas I'm not the network freak so far, but I like to keep my data in my hands. That said I thoughtI would go for crashplan as I'm able to do the backup on a second place. I will do the backup on my brothers side on a external drive, by that I ensure that my data not get hurt by fire or water. Or what would you recommend in that case? How could I else do that on a secure way, as the backup HD will run behind another router, that might not be a problem? regards freenassnofla

I do have a question to the below, do I have to fill the IP address from the NAS here?

Code:
[root@freenas] /mnt/zpool# jls
  JID IP Address Hostname Path
    1 - crashplan_1 /mnt/zpool/jails_2/crashplan_1
[root@freenas] /mnt/zpool# jexec 1 /bin/tcsh

I managed to come a step forward, but I#m bit confused about "pw: mkdir(/home/crashplan): No such file or directory"

Code:
[root@freenas] ~# service sshd start
sshd already running? (pid=7871).

[root@freenas] ~# adduser

You first have to mkdir the home directory in your crashplan jail's root directory manually.

I have CrashPlan running in a jail.
I wrote a how-to here:
http://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/14099/

Since then I have switched to x64 and a newer FreeNAS version.
I created a new jail mostly based on the info in link above.

I plan on writing another post on this but need to find some time..

Hello my friends,

I'm just lost the overview about what I'm doing :-(.

Actually I run FreeNas version "FreeNAS-9.2.1.2-RELEASE-x64 (002022c)".

Managed to install crashplan 3.6.3_1
Jail: crashplan_1
service status: on

When I try to start crashplan then I get the following url: http://support.code42.com/CrashPlan/Latest/Configuring/Configuring_A_Headless_Client

I have installed the desktop GUI so far and that works fine but how do I get the connection into the FreeNas system?

I like to store the data from my FreeNas to friends is that not possible at all?

I just started running the whole tutorial one more, but now I do have problem with the shell.

I'm doing the following steps:

  1. Calling shell on jail crashplan_1
  2. then I place: vi /etc/rc.conf
  3. press I
  4. modify sshd enable = "YES"
  5. then WQ to get that saved
But nothing changes for me, any idea what I do wrong?

Well finally I managed the change, I wasn't aware about :wq

When it comes to the user for ssh-access, I tried to copy mnt/zpool# jls and I get the following answer from Shell

Code:
root@crashplan_1:/ # /mnt/zpool# jls
/mnt/zpool#: Command not found.
root@crashplan_1:/ #

What to do in that case do I have to change some of the below in description given values; before it will work?

Code:
Create User for ssh-access

[root@freenas] /mnt/zpool# jls
  JID IP Address Hostname Path
    1 - crashplan_1 /mnt/zpool/jails_2/crashplan_1
[root@freenas] /mnt/zpool# jexec 1 /bin/tcsh
